The Organized Entrepreneur

The Systemized Entrepreneur must strive to be as effective as possible during as much of his/her work time. Being effective is a difficult thing to measure and is a subject for another post. However there are some important quick wins that one can make to increase the clarity of what you are doing and how you are doing it. From this grows the shoots of true effectiveness which is a key attribute of success in business.
One quick win that I want to point you to is “surfacing your key information”.
What I mean here is this. How much important information have you downloaded for free or for the ubiquitous $37 and commited it to your hard drive for “later”. Well we all know that later rarely comes. I’ve been there and have the tee shirt. It is the stuff of bad dreams as it is a symptom of a scattered, ineffective and most likely failing entrepreneur, and certainly not the stuff of the truly Systemized Entrepreneur.
OK here is what to do about it.
1) Know what you are trying to achieve (see other posts on this blog)
2) isolate those documents, websites, ebooks that a specifically to do with what you are trying to achieve. Archive the rest out of sight onto CD ie. OFF your computer.
3) build a local webpage with your favourite web page editor and create a page in which you are going to place references to these important files.
The key thing here is that web browsers are typically secure and will refuse to access stuff on your drive, however at the time of writing you can use Firefox and the magic of the file URL to achieve this.
e.g. <A href=”file:///C:/defgui-pmbt987fv.pdf” target=”_blank”>
This code put into a webpage on my machine will popup Perry Marshall’s Adwords PDF on my hard drive.
NB this only works at the time of writing on Firefox and not Internet Explorer. I recommend Firefox anyway so a good reason to change.
Obviously I have a series of tables on my webpage with references like above to a variety of content on my hard drive. A bit like this. Obviously the links won’t work as they only work on my PC.

I have to add that like anything to do with computers I cannot accept responsibility for any problems that trying this out may give you. However I don’t forsee anything to worry about.
